Football championship match: Randal Og v Bantry Blues - 2017-07-15 22:30:00

In the second round junior B football championship match we met Bantry Blues at Drimolegue on this Saturday evening 15th July.

It was a hard fought, low scoring, game with little between the sides at any stage  but it was another instance where the well used saying "goals win games" applied.

Bantry were first to score, a point within two minutes of the throw in. Owen O'Sullivan got the equaliser from a free on four minutes. The next score came after sixteen minutes when Bantry regained the lead with another point from a free.

In the meantime Gerard Lynch had come off injured. Randals had created a few good scoring chances before eventually getting through for the first goal of the game, finished off by Barry O'Driscoll in the twentieth minute. A Bantry point left it 1-1 to 0-3 at half time.

Four minutes into the second half came the second goal scored by Gearoid White. Bantry replied with two quick points but  ten minutes in Fergal Kelly, taking a pass from Shane Patterson, was on target to make it 3-1 to 0-5.

Bantry came back for two more points. Owen O'Sullivan scored again in the sixteenth minute to keep the margin at four points.

Bantry scored their eighth point with a little over five minutes of ordinary time left but Owen O'Sullivan

with another well taken free got a vital point again coming up to injury time. The last score fell to Bantry , a point on thirty two minutes. Despite further pressure the Randals defence held firm and it was Randal Og   3-3  Bantry Blues  0-9 at the finish.
