Junior hurlng championship final victory - 2017-09-26 16:14:00

Congratulations and well done to our hurlers and their team management on a great win in the final of the Carbery Division junior B championsip, against Kilbrittain, played at Ahiohill on last Sunday 24th September. It was a bright dry evening with a westerly breeze.

The early minutes of the game belonged to Kilbrittain.  They scored two points from frees in the second and third minutes. Patrick Crowley got one back but then Kilbrittain came looking for goals. An alert Patrick Lynch foiled their first effort and made a successful clearance but they were back a minute later to find the net from close range.

Randals' second score came from Johnny Collins but Kilbrittain got through again for another close in goal and they added a point to go 2-3 to 0- 2 ahead with ten minutes gone.

However Randals, who had the advantage of the breeze in the opening half, began to  get a grip at this stage, allowing no more goal opportunities. Four points in succession came from Johnny Collins, Owen O'Sullivan and Seadhna Crowley who got two, one from play and one from a free.

Kilbrittain got their fourth point early in the second quarter but between that and half time it was mainly the Seadhna Crowley show. He sent over four points, three from frees and one from play with Colm McSweeney getting one in between around the twenty third minute and Kilbrittain getting one back.

It was all square,  0-11 to 2-5 at half time.

Two points from Kilbrittain saw them go in front again early in the second half, but then there came what proved to be the decisive score, a well struck goal from Patrick Crowley, with thirty four minutes gone. It gave Randals a lead which was never lost, even though it was at  the minimum for most of a hectic closing quarter. Seadhna Crowley scored twice during this period and Johnny Collins added another,  from an impossible angle,  with Kilbrittain replying in kind each time.

Three minutes to go and it was 1-14 to 2-10. Owen O'Sullivan was on target  again to make it 1-15 and Conor O'Donovan had the last word, close to the final whistle to clinch a notable victory.

Full time score was:  Randal  Og  1-18   Kilbrittain  2-10.

Carbery Board Chairman, our own  Joe Crowley, presented the Championship Cup to captain, Kieran O'Brien.

The Kilbrittain team accepted their defeat gracefully and showed their sportsmanship by staying on the pitch for the completion of the presentation.
