County Junior Football Championship - Randals v Goleen - 2018-06-18 19:43:00

It was a game that looked to be gone, but it came back dramatacally in the closing minutes. This was rhe junior B football championship quarter-final, Randal Og versus Goleen at Castlehaven on last Saturday evening.

It was score for score in the first half, in which Randals had the advantage of a north westerly wind, but it was wind which had little effect on the game. Goleen had a narrow lead at half time and they dominated the scoring for most of the third quarter, building up a five point lead.

That was before Randals' late resurgence.

Seadhna Crowley got the opening score, a point from a free after two minutes, and he added another around the seven minute mark.

Goleen's first score was also a pointed free and it was 0-2 to 0-1, after a low scoring first quarter.

The scoring rate increased as the game went on.

Sam Kingston got his first score on eighteen minutes. Goleen replied with two, one from a free, and the scores were level with twenty three minutes gone. A Barry O'Driscoll point put Randals ahead again and Sam Kingston lofted over another shortly after.

Three points in succession put Goleen into the lead for the first time. A great point from Seadhna Crowley levelled the scores again.

Goleen almost got through for a goal coming to half time with Denis Lynch called into action. They scored a point in injury time to lead, 0-7 to 0-6, at the break.

Two minutes into the second half Seadhna Crowley got an equaliser, but Goleen were dominant for a period thereafter sending over five points in succession. They were 0-12 to 0-7 ahead going into the final quarter/

Another point, from a Seadhna Crowley free, reduced the margin but scores were hard to come by, There were only two more before the final whistle.

Randals needed a goal. It came, following a good move clinically finished off by Donncha Collins who had come on only some minutes earlier. Ian Crowley scored the equaliser with about five minutes of ordinary time left.

Both sides strove for a winning score, in the remaining minutes but it was:  Randal Og 1-9  Goleen 0-12, at full time.
