Under 21 hurling championship - Randals v St. James' - 2018-10-25 18:47:00

Well done to our under 21 hurlers who came through with a hard fought championship victory against a strong St. James' side at Ahiohill on Sunday last.

It was a bright dry day, but with a stiff northerly wind, which did not help with some scoring chances early in the game.

And a hard fought game it was, with score for score right through,  and never more than two points between the sides at any stage.

Early scores, from Eoin O'Donovan, in the sixth and tenth minutes gave Randals an early lead but St.James' got one back and their goal on the twelve minute mark made it 1-1 to 0-2.

Donncha Collins quickly replied with a point and Cathal Duggan added two more, to put Randals ahead again. It was point for point for the remainder of the half, with Eoin O'Donovan, Donncha Collins and Conor O'Donovan on target and it was all square, 1-5 to 0-8 at the break.

Eoin O'Donovan was again first to score in the second half, within two minutes of resumption and he added four more from frees.

With twenty four minutes gone it was 0-13 to 1-9.

Donncha Collins who had retired injured came back on, to get what proved to be the winning score.

There a few near misses in the closing minutes, but only one more score, a point for St. James', in injury time,

It was Randal Og 0-14  St. James' 1-10 at the final whistle.
