Junior football championship - Randals v Newcestown - 2019-06-11 11:53:00

Randals and Newcestown met at Ahiohill on Friday last, 7th June, in the first round of the Carbery junior  B football championship, which  is being played in Round-robin format.

It was a dry but cold evening, more like March than the first week of June, with a strong north- westerly blowing diagonally across the pitch.

Newcestown started well and were a goal and three points up after twelve minutes. Sam Kingston got Randals' first score, a point, on the quarter hour mark. Necestown's second goal came shortly after, but Eoin O'Sullivan got a point from a free and Barry o'Driscoll with a goal after twenty two minutes made it 2-4 to 1-2.

Necestown got a third goal coming  up to half time at which stage they led by 3-5 to 1-2,

Randals exerted continual pressure early in the second half but scores were hard to come by. Eoin O'Sullivan got a point from a free and then a goal from a penalty, around the thirty eighth minute, and it was 3-5 to 2-3.

That was as good as it got as Newcestown stretched their lead again. Patrick Lynch got a point early in the final quarter and Eoin O'Sullivan sent over from another free, late in the game but it was :  Necestown  3-11  Randal Og  2- 5  at full time.
