Junior hurling championship -Randals v Bantry Blues - 22/05/2019

Castletown-Kinneigh, not too far from home, was the venue on Saturday evening last  when Randals met Bantry Blues in the first round of the Carbery junior B hurling championship.

It was a fine dry evening, with a fresh north westerly wind which favoured Randals in the first half.

Randals went into attacking mode from the throw in, and were four points up in as many minutes. When Kevin Dullea and Barry Lynch doing great work in the half forward line, the scoring chances kept coming and it was 1-6 to 0-2, towards the end of the first quarter.

Donncha Collins got the first score. Cathal Duggan and Conor O'Donovan got the next two and then Cathal Duggan made it four up after four minutes.

Bantry got a point in the fifth minute but Conor O'Donovan replied with another. Bantry's second score was also quickly followed by another, this one from Cian O'Neill .

The only goal of the game came when Cathal Duggan, gaining possession around the twenty metre line, raced through to shake the Bantry net from close in. It was 1-6 to 0-2.

The scoring rate slowed in the second quarter. Bantry got a point from a free . Randals got two points during that period, one from Seamus Crowley after eighteen minutes and the other a great long range effort by Conor O'Connell coming up to half time. 

That left it 1-8 to 0-3 at the break.

It was score for score in the second half as Bantry fought hard to reduce their deficit. They got three points in the third quarter but Randals replied to each of these in turn, with Eoin O'Donovan, from a free , Seamus Crowley and Eoin O'Donovan, again, on target .

Into the last quarter and there came increased pressure from Bantry, as they scored four points in succession and with a little over ten minutes to go it was 1-11 to 0-10.

Every score was important now and next one came from Eoin O'Donovan who broke the sequence, with a point from a free.

Bantry scored again close to the sixty minute mark, but there were only two more as the game went into injury time. Eoin O'Donovan again from a free got one and Bantry had the last word close to the final whistle ;

Full time score was : Randal Og 1-13 Bantry Blues  0-12.
