Johnny Crowley was born in Knockane in 1936. He attended school at Bally gurteen N. S. and afterwards served his apprenticeship at Lowney's Garage in Clonakilty.

He went to Dublin to train as a metalwork teacher for two years. His teaching career started in Milford in Donegal and from there he took up posts in Tullamore, Clonakilty and County Meath before coming back and taking up a post at Dunmanway Vocational Schhool.

Whilst in Dunmanway he spearheaded the development of adult education night cllasses.

His love of music, song and dance led him to start music classes and these developed into a school of traditional music at Colaiste Chairbre.

He was also a member of Ahakeera Comhaltas with whom he travelled afar.

A man of many talents, Johnny was a ptoud member of the Randal Og club. He was in the forward line of the team that won the West Cork junior football championship in 1958 and scored one of the winning goals in the final.

He continued his lifelong sponsorship  and interest in the club and it was great to see him in attendance at the under 21 football championship match  at ahamilla in early February.

Johnny was a quiet, kind and unassuming gentleman, always ready to give a helping hand. His assistance, kindness and care for people wiithout seeking recognition was a trademark of his generous personality.
